“As a caregiver to a wounded veteran, I was beginning to feel overwhelmed and burnt out. This retreat was just what I needed.”
With 294 acres that includes wetlands, forested areas and walking trails, there is a wide variety of activities for Veterans and their families to enjoy at their pleasure. Thanks to the generosity of supporters, Patriot Point works with veteran and military service organizations to help guests heal through organized recreational activities and peer-to-peer communication.
In the Fall and Winter months, duck hunting is the main activity and in the summer months our 2.3 miles of shoreline with a 225-foot pier and a 900 foot sandy beach take center stage. Adults, and especially the children, love canoeing in the summer!
Regardless of the month or the season what remains the same is the calming environment Patriot Point provides.
“I like getting out into the outdoors, listening to Nature.” – Mike, Marine Veteran
Study after study shows that nature can positively impact one’s physical health and emotional well being. Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Stress is relieved within minutes of exposure to nature as measured by muscle tension, blood pressure, and brain activity.  Time in green spaces significantly reduces your cortisol, which is a stress hormone. Nature also boosts endorphin levels and dopamine production, which promotes happiness. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones.
